How You Can Help

Volunteers play a most vital role in the work of the Institute. It is the time given up freely by our volunteers that allow us to help visually impaired people throughout our community. Quite simply, without Volunteers the CIB cannot function, cannot reach those most in need of help and reassurance, cannot provide a source of hope and independence.

Volunteers help us to run a wide range of important services such as social activity clubs, home visits, safe transportation, hospital support at the eye clinic, Braille and computer training and a resource centre packed with aids and libraries to name but a few.

Befriending is one of the most useful ways in which volunteers can help us to help our friends. There happens to be a visually impaired person in your local area who is in need of a Befriending Volunteer. Our Befriending Volunteers help with things like reading letters and sorting the post, or assisting with the shopping, or perhaps going for a walk, or simply by providing a little companionship. As little as an hour each month can make all the difference to somebody on the edge of isolation.

If you think that you might be able to help in some way, even if it is a few spare moments every once in a while, please contact Spiro or Teresa on 2048 5414, and find out how you can use your precious time and your precious sight to add a little light to a precious life.

If you are passing by Shand House in Newport Road, by all means feel free to call in and find out more about what we do and how you can possibly help.

Thankyou
