The Institute is founded by Frances Batty Shand

1868

The purpose built premises in Longcross Street opened

1877

Frances Batty Shand retires

1885

Frances Batty Shand dies in Switzerland, her body is brought to Cardiff and is buried in Allensbank cemetery in Cardiff

1927

The CIB makes the team stockings for Cardiff City FC when they win the FA Cup

1941

The Longcross Street premises are destroyed during a German air raid

1951

Building work on the Newport Road premises begins, the foundation stone is laid by HRH The Duchess of Gloucester

The Newport Road premises are opened by Sir Walter Monckton

1984

Residential flats opened in Howard Gardens Cardiff by Sir Cennydd Traherne

Newport Road premises renamed Shand House in honour of our founder

1991

New Resource Centre opened at Shand House by HRH Diana Princess of Wales Technology Centre opened at Shand House by BBC broadcaster John Humphrys

1995

Mobile Resource Centre opened by BBC broadcaster and foreign correspondent Jeremy Bowen

1998

Computer Training Centre funded by the National Lottery opened at Shand House

1998

Welsh rugby legend, Gareth Edwards accepts invitation to become President of the CIB

2002

Upgraded Resource, Technology and Lighting Centre opened by Gareth Edwards

2003

Resource Centre renamed "Gareth Edwards Vision Centre" in honour of our President.
Ruth Madoc accepts invitation to become Patron.
Opening of satellite Resource Centre in the Eye Clinic at University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff.

2004

Officially began change of status to Community Fundraising Organisation.

2005

CIB celebrates it's 140th Anniversary!

CIB enters a Service Level Agreement with the Vale of Glamorgan Social Services Department.
